Morningstar Rites of Passage Lodge
What are Rites of Passage?

Rites of Passage Lodge shield
Rites of Passage are ceremonies that celebrate the natural transitions that we humans all experience: birth, puberty, maturity, the elder stage and death - hopefully in that order. Honouring these important milestones of human development with traditional rites of passage ceremonies keeps us in touch with our own natural cycles. This helps us to align with the natural world around us and develop into maturity with beauty.
In addition to the Rites of Passage ceremonies for these natural transitions, the Deer Tribe Metis Medicine Society (DTMMS) mark significant ages in the human journey through life with specific ceremonies. Some of these are personal ceremonies, while others are designed as group ceremonies. These ceremonies help us to prepare for the changes that come at different stages of our life, and reap the benefits of our previous experience and learning.
Rites of Passage ceremonies can also be created on an individual basis to give us insights into our personal dilemmas and questions and develop our own solutions in alignment with Sacred Law.
Lis Morning Star Rose, lodge leader, has been a DTMMS apprentice since 1992. She is a qualified DTMMS Rites of Passage Ceremonialist and a Sacred Pipe Carrier.
She is a mother, a practising counsellor within the NHS and has many years of experience of supporting others on ceremony, and healing through the Lodge of the Singing Stones. She is currently in ongoing training as a Healing Dance Chief and as a Rites of Passage Ceremonialist.

Rites of Passage
Age 30 –East of the Centre of the Big West Moon
+ Book of Life Rewrite & Recapitulation Sweat Lodge
Saturday November 1st 2008
11 am until 5 pm
The intent of this ceremony is to journey into the Shadow to identify times of disempowerment which created Pretender Voices. Once recapitulated, the Pretender Voices are given away and replaced with four cardinal Commander Voices.
In this way Pretence is eliminated and we can rewrite our Book of Life.
As with all Rites of Passage (RoP) ceremonies, it is part of the process of stepping back into alignment and gaining maturity. Sweet Medicine Sun Dance RoP Ceremonies are designed to empower humans on a lifelong path of evolution, and to gain the natural self not as a concept, but as a reality.
Who can take part?
Anyone who is 27 or over and has completed the RoP ceremonies up to and including their current age (see below for what this means, as there can be some flexibility).
Plan for the day:
· Meet for Teachings (venue to be confirmed)
· Light lunch (Bring food to share)
· Sweat Lodge Prep
· Sweat Lodge
· Debrief
In Adulthood, there are RoP ceremonies at age 30, 33, 45, 54, 57, 60, 72 and onwards until 135. Once we take the decision to engage with this process we start at our current age and work backwards. For example, if you are aged over 45 but not yet 54, then you need to complete the 45 ceremony then the 33, or if you are aged 58 and have completed the ceremonies at age 57, 54 & 45, and 33, then the 30 is the next one to complete.
However, as this is a new venture in the Lodge, it may be possible to be flexible, if you are committed to this process. If you feel called to do this ceremony at this time, please contact me, Lis Morning Star Rose to look at the options: liswilkie@hotmail.com
What are SMSD Rites of Passage Ceremonies?
SMSD Rites of Passage Ceremonies punctuate the whole of the human’s maturing journey. They start before birth and continue with the child through adulthood until death.
For Adults they can be mapped to correspond with 4 stages of movement in the Big Moon Cycles (Centre, South-East, North-West, East). Once you have left the Big South Moon you do not go back to those ceremonies. Instead the Gateway Ceremonies are designed – amongst other things – to deal with the lack of RoP in our childhood.
In addition to the Ceremonies that are given for specific ages, other “transitions” can also be celebrated or marked by specially created ceremonies. These transitions can include bonding, the end of a relationship, loss of a loved one, moving home or starting a new job - any change or significant event, in fact.
What do I do now?
If you would like to take part in this Rites of Passage Ceremony contact Lis Morning Star Rose as soon as possible. If there are not enough people, then this opportunity will not happen at this time.
