Rites of Passage

What are Rites of Passage?

Rites of Passage ceremonies can be created on an individual basis to give us insights into our personal dilemmas and questions and develop our own solutions in alignment with Sacred Law.

Rites of Passage are ceremonies that celebrate the natural transitions that we humans all experience: birth, puberty, maturity, the elder stage and death - hopefully in that order. Honouring these important milestones of human development with traditional rites of passage ceremonies keeps us in touch with our own natural cycles.  This helps us to align with the natural world around us and develop into maturity with beauty.

In addition to the Rites of Passage ceremonies for these natural transitions, the Deer Tribe Metis Medicine Society (DTMMS) mark significant ages in the human journey through life with specific ceremonies.  Some of these are personal ceremonies, while others are designed as group ceremonies.  These ceremonies help us to prepare for the changes that come at different stages of our life, and reap the benefits of our previous experience and learning.
